ALTA MESA, Monterey — October 29, 2026. The neighborhood’s Don Dahvee Park and creek-path crossing received renewed attention in Monterey’s fall construction planning. The City Council’s October 20 agenda listed an award of $1,128,425 to Guerra Construction Group for a contract combining Don Dahvee Park trail-crossing work with the separate San Bernabe Drive road-and-sidewalk project in Monterey Vista.

What is the Alta Mesa portion?

The city procurement materials describe a trail crossing near Don Dahvee Lane and Munras Avenue, including removal and construction of sections of concrete curb, gutter and pavement, fresh asphalt, signs and pavement markings. This neighborhood connection is different from the winding San Bernabe Drive improvement farther away; riders and walkers who regularly use the Don Dahvee area are the direct audience for the trail work.

Longtime NCIP project moves through procurement

The trail project has been tracked as NCP2421, with a 2024 NCIP funding history. In January 2026, the city’s project-review records showed $249,283 for Don Dahvee Creek Path Construction, noting that the design was complete but the physical project had not started at that snapshot. The October procurement agenda is a more recent development, but the older account balance is not an independently verified total cost for the October combined award.

Will the path close immediately?

Neither an agenda item nor a contractor selection establishes a date for temporary path closures. The city or the contractor should issue work-zone notices before active construction. Residents should follow current signage, avoid crossing barricades and check official updates rather than assume the crossing is already closed.

The October bid package is shared with the San Bernabe Drive project; publishing one article for each different physical work site helps Alta Mesa readers find the local trail implications without implying that two separate $1.13 million contracts exist.
